The Data tab provides an overview of how the Skyrim Data directory is seen when a program is launched through Mod Organizer. The File column tells the name of the file and the Mod column tells us the source of the file. If the name reported in the Mod column is colored red, another mod is active that would have provided the same file, but the mod reported in red is currently overwriting that file.
If you hover over the red mod name, it will tell you where the conflicting file is located. Ticking Show only conflicts at the bottom of this tab will cause it to only display files that have conflicts between mods. The context menu in the Data tab accessed by right-clicking provides several useful options. The Open/Execute option will open any file using the default program, or execute the file if it is a EXE or JAR executable application. The Add as Executable option is useful to add applications installed to the data directory quickly to Mod Organizer's list of executables. The Hide option will add a .mohidden file extension to whatever file you are hiding, making it effectively nonexistent.
The Write to file option will create a text file listing every single file in your virtual data directory and its source. It will present you with a Save As dialog box, to which you can type whatever name you want for the filename. It is suggested to add a .txt file extension in this window to make opening the file with a text editor simpler. The Refresh option, as well as the big refresh button at the top of the tab, will check for any changes and make sure what you are seeing is current and accurate. Every time you install a mod, it automatically gains highest priority and will provide all conflicting files once enabled. The higher the priority number, the higher priority is given to the mod.
Alternatively you can click the mod's priority number, hit F2, change it to a different priority number, and hit enter. You can also CTRL+click and shift+click multiple mods to move many mods into a different priority position. Most times, changing priorities will be all the conflict resolution you will need. Nevertheless, advanced mod users may desire more advanced control on conflict resolution. This may be accomplished in either the Conflicts or the Filetree tab within the Mod Information window by right-clicking the file to be hidden and selecting Hide. Hiding a file appends a ".mohidden" file extension to the file so that it will effectively not show up in game.
To install Skyrim mods on PC, you'll first need to install the Vortex mod manager, as this provides a complete support system for managing your mods and resolving any conflicts. With that set up, you'll have access to all kinds of Skyrim mods, which can all be downloaded and installed really easily. Once you've installed Vortex, it will ask which game you'd like to manage and if you've got Skyrim installed, it should show up as an option. Click Skyrim and you'll be asked to choose a destination folder for mods you download from the Nexus website. From here, you'll be able to start downloading mods from Nexus. Once you're satisfied you have all the mods you want to run, click "Files" in the top-left corner and you'll see an installation option beside each mod in your library.
Install these and then boot up the game, which should be a bit different now that you've got mods installed. With instanced installation, only one installation of MO is necessary to manage mods pertaining to multiple games and/or mod builds within the same game. Data for each instance is stored under %LocalAppData%/ModOrganizer. This is a significant limitation when one attempts to manage two completely different mod builds for the same game. This essentially combines mods from each build into a single mod list, adding a lot of 'noise' in the form of mods that will never be enabled.
Instances allow everything to be partitioned and independent, which mimics the 'portable' installation methodology without the multiple MO installations. Clicking on the button allows switching instances. I'll start you off with the MVP of the Skyrim VR modding community. This mod does a whole lot, but the main feature is that it adds an entire VR body to your character. Before this mod, all you had was a floating weapon or some disembodied hands using magic. Now, every armor set in the game is animated giving you some truly incredible visuals, and even armor sets from mods are supported.
Adding on to the amazingness of this mod is the ability to holster your weapons in up to 12 slots on your VR body. That means you can literally pull swords out from your waist holsters and reach back over your shoulder to grab a bow. No more menus, just full immersion and it's pretty wild that one man was able to create this mod that functionally changes the way you play a massive Triple-A game like Skyrim. There is a lot more to the mod as well and it's constantly being updated, so make sure you start off with this one, you won't regret it. To check mods for updates, right-click within the Left Pane and select Check all for update.
The success or failure of detecting all updates is dependent upon correct meta info for your mods (i.e., correct Nexus ID and version in the Nexus tab). Also, some mod authors use strange version systems that Mod Organizer may not detect. For this reason, it is wise to Track all your installed mods on the Nexus so you can refer to the tracking center for mod updates. Make certain to assess any new file conflicts and prioritize accordingly . If a mod contains assets in a BSA file, it will appear in the Archives tab under the mod's name. BSAs may also be unpacked in this tab by right-clicking the BSA and selecting Extract...
This will extract the BSA's contents to any folder you choose. When Have MO manage archives is checked in the Archives tab, all BSAs are treated exactly as if they were loose files. That means their priority depends solely on the mod priority order and not the plugin priority order .
Additionally, checking a BSA in this mode allows the BSA's assets to be loaded without the need for a dummy plugin. MO's BSA management may be turned off by unticking the Have MO manage BSAs option. If you decide to do this, please note that you will have to load BSAs through dummy plugins.
The game's built-in BSA versus loose files rules will apply, and BSAs will be loaded in plugin load order. With Nexus PremiumWithout Nexus Premium9. Wabbajack will ask you to login to Nexus and authorize your API key so it can download mods for you automatically. If this doesn't happen, it isn't a problem and means you've already set this up.9. Wabbajack will prompt you to click all the needed buttons to download the modlist. Be prepared for this to take an extraordinarily long time.
Current reports indicate installing the list manually takes approximately 24 hours. Installing with Nexus Premium isn't required, but is strongly recommended if you value your time. If you must install the list manually, put on an audiobook or a TV show and make a day of it.10. Wabbajack will now download and install all of the mods.
This will take a while (3-4 hours at most). Take this opportunity to read the Important Mods You Need To Know About section of this document. If a lightning icon with a red minus sign appears, the mod will will not overwrite files from any other mod but will have one or more of its files overwritten by a higher priority mod. In addition, the mod name will be greyed out and italicized.
If you want to use the mod despite this fact, you can right-click the mod and select Ignore missing data to remove the flag. This will put an empty textures folder in the mod directory, which MO will see as valid data despite the fact that it does absolutely nothing. The heart question icon appears when a mod has not been endorsed. I thought this video was going to show me how to download mods through steam but without a steam version of the game. Wrye Bash should be installed directly into the Skyrim game folder using the "standalone" option.
Instructions for adding Wrye Bash to the Mod Organizer executables can be found here. When you use Mod Organizer , all other programs that work with mods (i.e., BOSS, Wrye Bash, Skyrim Launcher, SkyEdit, Creation Kit, etc.) should be started from inside MO. The same is true for all launchers you may use (e.g., SKSE, SBW). Some of the well-known tools for the games supported by MO are automatically detected and added to your list of executables. A list of automatically detected tools are shown at the end of this page. To launch a game after it has been added to MO's list of executables, select the application from the drop-down list on the top right and click Run.

LOOT, the Load Order Optimization Tool, dynamically reads each mod's list of dependencies and will suggest a load order based on them. LOOT should be downloaded and installed into your mod management directory.
If you are using Mod Organizer, LOOT should be added to the list of applications that MO launches; instructions for doing so can be found here. SKSE can be downloaded for free from Steam, which should automatically install it to the correct location. The memory patch must then be initialized from an .ini file, located at steamapps/common/Skyrim/Data/SKSE/skse.ini. If this file does not yet exist, you will need to create it. If you want to install SKSE into your mod manager, zip the Data folder in the SKSE download and rename it data_skse.zip. Select it with your mod manager to add it to the list of mods it manages.
With Vortex, you can drag and drop it in, choose "Install," and then deploy it. Before you start adding a plethora of mods, download SKSE. This is a must-have for almost all modded installations and is downloaded outside of your mod manager. Make sure you know where your Skyrim directory and Scripts folders are before you start. It's located in the Steam\SteamApps\common\SkyrimVR folder by default.
It's also likely that you'll have adjusted your update settings for the game on Steam and use a separate mod manager to launch the game. If you don't do this, then there's a risk that the SKSE can break every time that the Bethesda Creation Club receives a new update. If both the above methods don't work, we can try changing the directory of Nexus Mod Manager manually.
This will force the program to reinitialize its running operations and create fresh config and user data files on your computer. Make sure that you are logged in as an administrator on your computer before proceeding. If this doesn't work out, you can always revert the changes at any time. Skyrim Script Extender has been updated for the Anniversary Edition, and many of the mods that were broken during the changeover are working again now.
Thankfully, that's not necessary anymore and it's just a few easy steps to get your game moddable and ready to go. Nexus Mods is an A-list name among PC gamers, serving a McDonald's-like 4.5 billion downloads of user-created content, changes, and improvements. Some users download the mods for one game and use them on other video games. For example, you have downloaded the mods for the Skyrim game, and using them on your Skyrim Special Edition game can cause these kinds of issues. Once you have finished downloading mods - you can see everything you've installed in 'My Library' at the top of the page - go back to the Main Menu by pressing Back. The mod selection and data files will reload, and you can load a save with the mods installed.
There are provisos, as there always are, and with some of the more technically extensive mods there's a bit of a spanner in the works. SkyUI, by snakster, is arguably one of the most essential mods, requires you to start the game using the Skyrim Extension Loader, an exe that launches straight into the game. This means that you can't start the game from the launcher, leaving the whole downloading-and-checking-for-updates aspect more trouble than ideal. Beyond that, and a few other more esoteric examples, it's the simplest approach to modding that I've yet come across. Before you start turning dragons into 'Macho Man' Randy Savage, there are a few things you'll want to install first. It's also recommended to do a clean install of Skyrim and start a new game, especially if you're going to be throwing a lot of mods into the mix.
What I like to do is create a new, unmodified game, get somewhere like Riverwood and then create a save that I can use for testing. You don't need to fire up the save after every mod, but it's worth checking a few times during the process to make sure everything's working. The fewer mods you've installed, the easier it will be to pinpoint any problems or conflicts. FOMOD installer archives will launch one of two FOMOD installation plugins depending on whether its script format is coded in XML or C#.
XML FOMODs will launch the integrated installer plugin, which will initially extract the files and then present you with the FOMOD Installation Dialog. When an update is available for Mod Organizer , the update button becomes colored . Simply click the button, and follow any prompts to update. The update button can be found at the top right of the toolbar, or in the menu under Help.
You can paste every file in your root directory if you want, but these are the only two files you need for an ENB to function. With the binaries installed, it's time to look for an actual ENB mod. Head to your mod site of choice and look for any ENB mod. Once you've found an ENB you like, manually download its files—don't download to your mod manager.
Drop the contents of the ENB mod into your root directory. If you need to override any files, say "yes." Once you have a few mods downloaded you may notice the load order start to populate. This list is important because some mods and files need to be loaded by the game in a specific order. We need to run Skyrim SE to the main menu before activating mods, so give the game a boot to initial menu and then quit.
This will create the much-needed .ini file for editing and will ensure we don't run into issues with mods not working correctly at a later date. Steam is the only version of this game, you can install nexus mods either with the Nexus Mod Manager or installing it manually. Nexus Mod Manager makes everything much easier, for manual installs different mods have different installation methods, just go with the mod manager. Some mod managers don't have a way to automatically order your mods, luckily, Vortex does a pretty good job of this. If you run into issues, start by running only a couple of mods at a time otherwise you'll run into this problem right here. I moved a mod with a data folder, into the data file of skyrim, i think that is why it doesn't seem to work. I already have the skyrim se script extender. But i dont even know if that is installed correctly. Thanks for video, hope is works formy situation.
